The Ultimate Image

by John Buddie

The Ultimate Image is created by the bonding and interaction of dog and owner.  “Engagement” is the most important motivation to stimulate learning, and most breeders wait until puppies go to their new homes before trying to create a learning environment.  That is simply wasting valuable time.  Every breeder needs to begin creating that Ultimate Image from the moment a litter is born.  Every single day can stimulate learning, and more importantly, the desire to learn.  Learning how to manage stress, to reinforce positively, to engage, and to create a stimulating learning environment for puppies is the key to maximizing potential.  This presentation offers a look into the dynamics of making this all happen.

John Buddie has been breeding Collies for 44 years and has bred 130 champions under the Tartanside prefix.  Tartonside can boast multiple specialty, group winning and All Breed Best in Show Winners.  Having produced 12 Register of Merit Sires and Dams, Tartenside dogs have produced over 350 champions in the US and abroad.  Tartanside Preview is the top performance sire in breed history, followed by Ch. Tartanside Th’ Critics Choice.

A retired teacher by profession, John took a few years off and handled dogs professionally for three years.  He now divides his retirement time showing his own dogs and doing seminars across the country.  He is co-author of “The Magnificent Collie” and has been a monthly columnist for four breed publications over the last 30 years.

Kay Sivel is a certified Usui Reiki Master with years of experience in treating people and animals with Reiki.  This is a passion that developed from her desire to know what a dog needed during a massage.  It is said that one feels “refreshed, revitalized, energized and rested” after a session on the table.

Kay also teaches Reiki and has studied with Amy Rowland, author of Traditional Reiki for Our Times  and Intuitive Reiki for Our Times.  It is her hope that everyone gets to experience the benefits of Reiki – and learn how to pass it on – it’s all positive energy and the world can only benefit from more of it!

Relationship Building Through Play

by Karen Schelling

Relationship Building Through Play

Whether we are involved in competitive sports or simply want to enjoy our time with our dogs as companions, the human-animal bond is the root of our connection with our dogs.  This workshop will explore the use of play and games to forge a stronger bond with our canine friends.  Based upon the concept that “play drive is prey drive”, games will be used to focus attention, build drive, and cement the closeness that we feel with our dogs.  These behaviors can then be applied as skills that are useful in agility, obedience and/or other competitive venues.
