FAQs

What should I bring to camp?
You will receive a mailing with a list of suggested items for camp.  You will need at least one crate for your cabin but may wish to bring an extra crate and water bowl to keep at the fields. Bring a chair for the fields.  The weather can be unpredictable in mid-May so bring clothes for both warm and cool weather as well as rain gear.  If it rains most classes will be moved indoors but you will still need to walk through campus to get to the buildings.  A sleeping bag or heavy quilt for the cool nights will be a good idea.  Don’t forget treats for your dog as well as his food and toys.  An exercise pen may be used around your crate in the cabin if your dog needs extra personal space.

Can I bring a tent or EZ Up for the fields?
Yes, there will be room around the obedience and agility fields for tents or EZ Ups.

If I don’t have a tent, will there be an area for crating at the fields?
There will be an area set aside for crating near the obedience and agility fields.

What about snacks for the cabin?  Is there refrigeration in the cabins?
There are no refrigerators in the cabins.  However, if you need to refrigerate dog food, snacks, medicines, wine, etc. there will be refrigerators and freezers available in the dining hall which are accessible 24 hours a day.  Please have your refrigerator items clearly marked with your name.[back to top]

What if it rains?
Luckily, Camp Green Lane has 7 indoor pavilions which we can use in case of rain.  All classes except full agility courses and tracking can be held indoors. If the rain is light, agility and tracking will be held outdoors.

All freestyle classes will be held in the Globe rain or shine.  However, please bring rain gear as you will need to walk to the buildings for classes and to the dining hall for meals.[back to top]

What kind of food can I expect?
Our chef will prepare 3 full meals a day.  Meals will be served buffet style.  Fruit is available at every meal and salad bar is available at lunch and dinner.  There will be vegetarian selections available at every meal.  The food is plentiful and very good but it is for campers only.  Please do not take food out of the dining hall to your dogs.[back to top]

My dog and I have never had classes in obedience or agility.  Will I be able to participate in those activities?
Part of the fun of being at camp is trying new activities with your dog.  There will be instruction at all levels in each activity with special classes for puppies in obedience and agility.  Always feel free to talk to the instructors if you have a special concern about a class or need to know which class you and your dog should attend.  The instructors will give an introduction to their sport and answer questions after dinner on Sunday so that you will have some help to plan your week.

Many dogs have not done lure coursing, tracking or herding.  It is so much fun to watch a new dog chase that lure or be introduced to sheep for the first time.  Find out what hidden talents you and your dog may have.[back to top]

How often do classes run?
Classes will be 50 minutes each and will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  There is a two hour break at lunch to give the dogs (maybe you too) a chance to rest.  During that time, there will be some quiet activities like leash making or short seminars.  There will also be a vendor day if you get the urge to shop.

In addition to regular classes, if you would like private instruction, private lessons can be arranged with instructors in obedience, agility, and freestyle.

The challenge at camp is not to do so much that you and your dog become exhausted.  Some days, you may choose not to do it all and plan some free time to relax.  That is what camp is all about.[back to top]

I plan to be an off-site camper.  Are there any restrictions on my activities?
All campers are welcome to participate in all scheduled activities.  We plan to have our seminars early in the evenings so everyone can attend.  There will also be a barbeque for dinner one night, campfires to relax near and a games day on Friday afternoon.[back to top]

I’m not sure that my dog will be a good camper.  Is there anyone I can talk to about my dog and the camp environment?
Our staff will be happy to answer your questions.   Unfortunately, camp is not for every dog.  Some dogs may find it difficult to be around other dogs day and night for a whole week.  Other dogs just love all the activity.  If you have a concern about your dog, please feel free to call or email us and we will be happy to help you.[back to top]

Can I come to camp for 1 or 2 days instead of the whole week?
Unfortunately, the structure and costs of running camp require a full week’s commitment from our campers.[back to top]
